2021 Highlights

Christmas is here again! As another year comes to a close we would like to THANK YOU for all your support and share with you just some of our 2021 highlights

2021 has been jam packed with challenges and celebrations. Our garden design and landscaping teams have increased, completing a record 78 new designs and 29 landscape builds this year. We have seen a change in our client’s needs, and as they are spending more time at home and in the garden, we have incorporated more outdoor kitchens, swim spas and garden offices in our design and builds than ever. We have also seen extreme material shortages, logistical issues at the borders, increased duties, staff shortages and the first RHS Chelsea Flower Show to be postponed until Autumn… but we made it out the other side, with a Silver Medal Award winning Show Garden

RHS CHELSEA 2021 We built the ’60° East: A Garden Between Continents’ on the Main Avenue at RHS Chelsea in just under 3 weeks. After months of cancelled meetings and flights, we resorted to zoom calls to plan the build with our designers Ekaterina Zasukhina from Russia and Carly Kershaw from the UK We brought in 65 tonnes of Mica Quartzite stone to create the Ural Mountain backdrop. 3 elegant Niwaki Cloud Pruned Pines set the scene for East meets West and the Thalictrum ‘Hewitts Double’ stole the show with it’s delightful sprays of small lilac flowers amongst a natural palette of meadow planting. ‘The Kiss’ and ‘The Little Boy’ sculptures by Penny Hardy finished the garden beautifully and their copper colouring was perfectly suited for the Autumn. The garden received great applause from the public and press, and won an RHS Silver Medal

The show garden has now been redesigned and donated to the Chelmsford Ambulance Station where it will be a wellbeing garden for staff to enjoy during breaks. We are so pleased it is going to a good home and our ambulance service is incredibly deserving. Sean decided to fund the rebuild of this garden as a thank you to the NHS. Sean sadly lost his mum unexpectedly this year, which has had a great impact on him. He said “the work that all the NHS staff do is highly demanding and stressful. Recreating our Chelsea garden as a thank you for all the times they had to help my mum and all the people in our local community, will be very rewarding.” Sean has included some of his Mum’s favourite plants in this design in her memory. We will update you on this project once the re build begins…

REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT This year, we have been focusing on further reducing our carbon footprint and invested in our first electric company vehicle. We have also recycled 95% of our clients existing patios back into the new landscape design, recycled 100% of our green waste through our approved supplier and supplied 100% of soil improver to our new landscape projects from this source

NEW DESIGNER  In June, we introduced a third designer to our team. Grace completed her degree in Landscape and Garden Design at Writtle University College and then came on as an assistant designer. Her design vision was commended at University and this is evident in her design work for Cube. Grace has quickly become a valued member of our design team

NEW BABY We also welcomed a baby to the Cube family. Our foreman, Myles and his partner Chelsea welcomed Noah in May. Noah is extra special as he is Sean’s first grandchild, the first of many I am sure. Sean will be exercising his babysitting duties over the Christmas break

NEW DESIGN STUDIO We have been busy working on our new design studio too. Opening in January, the studio in Danbury will now showcase our most popular products including our garden lighting and sound systems, kitchen islands, garden furniture and more. Everyone is welcome to pop in and take a look Next year, we are looking forward to building the ‘Circle of Life Garden’ at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022. Designed by Yoshihiro Tamura, this build has been postponed since the pandemic began A place of escape from the digital world, this garden seeks to represent the cycle of life from beginning to end through different means. The different heights within the garden depict the highs and lows of life, and the curves are the twists and turns of our everyday journeys We can’t wait to see this project finally come together

We have many more exciting projects in the pipeline for 2022 and look forward to sharing these with you in the New Year. Thank you again for all your support Enjoy the holidays!

CHRISTMAS SHUTDOWN Our office will be closed from Friday 17th December until Tuesday 4th January. We will not be monitoring phones or emails during this shutdown period but we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible when we re-open. We look forward to hearing from you in the New Year
